Community Finance and the Fourth Sectors

We aim to build financial, environmental and social resilience and sustainability for Australian communities.

Building financial resilience and sustainability:

This work has 3 key elements: Securing new Financial resources, establishing new financial systems and developing financial skills and knowledge.

Financial resources:

We ask Australian investors to put their money into ethical social investment products that will provide an additional source of financial resources (in addition to government funding and philanthropy) for community organisations and aligned entities. Learn more about social investing

Financial systems:

We look for innovative ways to recycle and reuse money that helps to build economic strength and security and the capacity of communities to build their self-reliance. Learn more about Community Economic Development

We aim to build the commonly-held wealth of Australian society (in this era of significant growth of individually-held wealth). Wealth and assets owned through community organisations can be leveraged to bring benefits for everyone in a community. Learn more about community asset building

Financial knowledge and skills:

We work to increase awareness of the possibilities and the skills of individuals and organisations to effectively plan, manage and leverage income and assets. Learn more about our education and publications

Building Social resilience and sustainability

We believe in the power of people and communities to change their own lives - and that everyone has a role to play. We aim to increase participation and engagement from all sectors and levels of society in doing this work. Specifically, we aim to:

Engage Australian investors

Encourage and provide avenues for Australian investors to help by allowing their money to be put to work to strengthen communities through social and ethical investments.

Government and corporations

Gain support from government and corporations for this work through funding support, partnerships and regulatory change.

Spread the Word

Through our advocacy, education and research efforts we aim to build awareness of the possibilities for all Australians to participate in and benefit from initiatives that strengthen Australian society.
